La Jara Mesa Trails Closure
Albuquerque, NM, July 20, 2016 – A Closure Order has been issued for the La Jara Mesa trail system located on Cibola National Forest and National Grassland’s Mt. Taylor Ranger District. This closure is effective immediately. The purpose of this order is to protect public health and safety, eliminate the potential for vehicle accidents, and eliminate the potential for damage to private property.
Numerous six-inch spikes have been illegally placed throughout the La Jara trail system, creating the potential for OHV accidents, vehicle damage, and bodily harm or death to the rider. This closure will allow for enforcement of the area while preventing public injuries and/or property damage.
The closure includes the following: Trail numbers 02401, 02402, 02403, 02404, 02405, 02406, and 02407 on the top of La Jara Mesa. The legal description of this area is: Section 2, 3, and 10; T12N, R9W, Sections 34,35,36,27, and 26, T13N, R9W, in Cibola and McKinley Counties, New Mexico.
This closure will remain in effect until December 31, 2016, or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Violations of this order are punishable as a Class B misdemeanor and can include a $10,000 fine and/or imprisonment. If you have any questions about this closure order, please contact the Mt.
